Welcome to the Belfast Musical Festival

President's Welcome

It gives me enormous pleasure as President of the Belfast Musical Festival of Music Speech and Drama to welcome you all to the 2016 Festival. We are well into our second century and despite the many changes which we have to face the future continues to hold enormous promise.

Speech and Drama continues to go from strength to strength and I never cease to be amazed at the extent of the talent demonstrated by our young people.

Music is beginning to show signs of a healthy revival and we are quietly hopeful of a continued, if modest, increase in the numbers of participants.

We are continuing our association with the Lyric Theatre this year for Speech and Drama and we are optimistic that this association will deliver future dividends. I wish to record my appreciation for the hard work of all the committee members. Without their input the Festival could not continue. We are all looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable Festival this year, and have high hopes for a secure and successful future.

Welcome to the website of the Belfast Musical Festival of Music, Speech and Drama where you will find details of the 108th Festival.

This year we are pleased to welcome back Marcia Carr along with Stephen Owen to adjudicate for Speech and Drama; We continue to enjoy excellent facilities in the Lyric Theatre, Belfast and St Bride’s Hall, Malone for Speech and Drama and the Ekenhead Halls for Music.

The Speech and Drama Section runs slightly earlier than usual this year to fit with programming at the Lyric Theatre –from Monday 8th February to Saturday 13th February 2016.

The Music section runs from Wednesday 9th March to Saturday 12th March 2016.

Last year approximately 1,000 entrants took part in a very successful event. In this our 108th Festival we look forward to the same high standard of performance and an even greater number of entrants who will have a unique opportunity to showcase their talents and learn from both the adjudicators and their peers.
